Denver St. Patrick's Day Parade

DENVER — The 64th annual Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade will march through downtown Denver on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m., rain or shine. With around 10,000 marchers expected, the parade will begin in downtown Denver at the corner of 19th and Wynkoop, turning left on 17th Street to Blake Street, marching east on Blake and before ending at 27th and Blake at the Coors Field parking lot.

Olde Town Arvada St. Patrick's Day Festival

ARVADA — The free Olde Town Arvada’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival is back on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. The all-ages street festival offers food, vendors, beer and live performances from Centennial State Pipes and Drums, Eric Golden Band, School of Rock, and more. There will also be kids’ activities and street entertainment.

Colorado Springs St. Patrick’s Day Parade

COLORADO SPRINGS — The 42nd annual Colorado Springs St. Patrick’s Day Parade steps off at 12 p.m. Saturday in downtown Colorado Springs. WELLINGTON — The 2nd annual St. Paddy’s Parade & Festival will be held on Saturday in downtown Wellington. The event will feature live music, vendors, photo booth, inflatables, and local shop specials. The Centennial Park festival begins at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

DENVER — The St. Paddy's Day Pet Parade is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. in Five Points. Registration begins at 10 p.m. at Cousins Plaza and walking along the sidewalk to Welton Plaza at 2800 Welton St.

St. Pittie's Day Pub Crawl

DENVER — Denver Animal Shelter will hold its St. Pittie’s Day Pub Crawl on Saturday. Visitors to the Denver Animal Shelter at 1241 W. DENVER — The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) is back in Denver this weekend. The New York Sirens take on the Minnesota Frost in the PWHL Takeover Tour at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ball Arena. The game is the 11th of 16 neutral-site matchups on this season’s Takeover Tour and the second to be played in Denver following a 3-1 win for the Vancouver Goldeneyes over the Seattle Torrent on Jan. 25. Minnesota was part of the first-ever PWHL game in Denver in last season’s Takeover Tour with a 4-2 win over the Montréal Victoire on Jan. 12, 2025. DENVER — Sculptures built from more than 1.5 million Lego bricks are part of a new science exhibition in Denver. “Brick Planet: A magical journey made with Lego bricks,” is now open at Denver Museum of Nature & Science. The new exhibition was created by artist Sean Kenney who served as a guest judge on the reality show "Lego Masters." Guests also can build their own brick creations, sketch in journals and play a magnetized game. "Brick Planet" will be at the Denver museum until May 3.

Squishy Science Sunday

DENVER — The American Physical Society is hosting "Squishy Science Sunday" from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. State health officials are asking people who visited Bout Time Pub & Grub Tuesday or Wednesday night to watch for symptoms.

ARVADA, Colo. — State health officials are asking people who visited a sports bar in Arvada this week to watch for symptoms after identifying two more measles cases in Broomfield residents.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) said in a release Thursday that two additional cases of measles have been identified and health officials are investigating another, all in Broomfield residents. They are all household contacts of a previously-confirmed case, the release said.

CDPHE said to prevent further spread, public health protocols require unvaccinated household members of confirmed cases to quarantine. Two of the new cases were already in quarantine due to their vaccination status, according to the release. The third person was not in quarantine because they were vaccinated.

The release said while the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine is highly effective, breakthrough cases can occur, especially after prolonged exposure within a household. Breakthrough cases normally experience milder symptoms and are less likely to spread the illness to other people, according to health officials.

CDPHE said getting the MMR vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and others from the disease.

Anyone who was in the following location at the time and date listed may have been exposed to measles, according to the release. Any additional exposure locations will be added to the CDPHE exposures webpage as they are identified.

We were surprised and concerned to see recent reports referencing our Arvada location in connection with a confirmed measles case.

To be clear: our restaurant did not cause this situation. An individual who later tested positive for measles visited our establishment as a guest, just as someone might visit a grocery store, coffee shop, or movie theater. Businesses that serve the public have no way to screen guests for illnesses that may not yet show symptoms.

While we understand the importance of public health notifications, we are disappointed that the reporting of this situation may unintentionally suggest our restaurant was responsible. As soon as we were notified by public health officials, we fully cooperated and followed their guidance.

At this time:• Our team members are vaccinated and healthy• The restaurant has been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized• We remain open and operating as normal

The health and safety of our guests and staff is extremely important to us, and we take that responsibility seriously every day.

Health officials previously identified seven measles cases tied to Broomfield High School or Broomfield Heights Middle School, all in unvaccinated patients.

DENVER — People at an Arvada sports bar may have been exposed to measles earlier this week, state health officials said Thursday, as the number of confirmed cases tied to an outbreak of the highly contagious disease in Broomfield County continues to grow.

Two additional cases were confirmed by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment in connection with the outbreak at Broomfield High School and Broomfield Heights Middle School, and public health officials say they’re investigating a possible third. All three are household contacts of a previously confirmed case in the county, a CDPHE spokesperson said in a news release.

The latest exposure occurred at the Bout Time Pub & Grub sports bar, located at 5225 W. 80th Ave in Arvada. People there may have been exposed on Tuesday, March 10, and Wednesday, March 11, between 8 p.m. and 12:30 a.m., according to the CDPHE.

Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that spreads through the air and can remain airborne for up to two hours — meaning people may have been exposed even if they were nowhere near the infected person at the time.

State health officials said the latest two cases occurred in unvaccinated individuals who were already in quarantine to prevent the further spread of the disease. The third individual was not in quarantine because they were previously vaccinated, the CDPHE spokesperson said.

“While the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine is highly effective, breakthrough cases can occur, especially following prolonged exposure within a household,” the CDPHE official said in a news release. “Breakthrough cases typically experience milder illness and are less likely to spread the virus to others.”

Dozens of students and other staff members from both schools have been instructed to stay home for at least the next three weeks amid the state's first measles outbreak of 2026, though school officials have warned that additional measles cases could prolong the quarantine period for unvaccinated or immunocompromised students.

What to do if you believe you were exposed

Anyone who believes they may have been exposed — especially those who have not been vaccinated with the MMR vaccine — should monitor for symptoms for 21 days and avoid public gatherings or high-risk settings, health officials said in a news release.

State health officials said those who were potentially exposed in connection with this latest case may develop symptoms through Wednesday, April 1.

Symptoms to watch out for include anything from a fever, a cough, a runny nose, and red, watery eyes that develop into a rash that starts on the face and then spreads to the rest of the body about three to five days after symptoms first start. A person with measles is contagious four days before and four days after the rash appears.

If you were at the location listed above and develop symptoms, you are asked to contact the CDPHE at 720-653-3369 or your local public health agency immediately by phone before trying to seek treatment to avoid other people from becoming potentially infected with the virus. If you do not have a provider, call an urgent care center or emergency department and explain that you may have been exposed to measles.

While most people recover within two or three weeks after contracting the virus, unvaccinated people run the risk of complications from the disease, including ear infections, seizures, pneumonia, immune amnesia, brain damage and ultimately, death.

Measles only spreads from people who show symptoms; it does not spread from people who aren’t feeling sick, state health officials said.

Unvaccinated people exposed to the virus can get the MMR vaccine 72 hours after exposure (but before symptoms are present) to prevent an infection, according to health officials. Immunoglobulin (IG), if administered within six days of exposure, may also be used in some circumstances, they added.

“Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself, your family, and your community,” the CDPHE spokesperson said.

While the two-dose series of the MMR vaccine has a 97% efficacy rate against infection, about 3 in every 100 people can still get infected if exposed to the virus, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Vaccinated individuals will usually develop milder symptoms and are less likely to spread it to others, according to state health officials.

People who got vaccinated against measles before 1968 should talk to their health care provider about possibly getting a booster as the vaccine used before that year wasn't as effective.

As of Thursday, Colorado has reported cases of the virus in Adams (5), Arapahoe (1), Broomfield (3), and Weld (1) counties. On average, the state sees between zero and two cases each year. Last year, Colorado reported 36 measles cases amid a multi-state outbreak of the virus in the U.S.

Across the country, the number of confirmed measles infections has already topped 1,000. For context, 2026 seen more than half of all measles cases in just two months than it saw in all of 2025.

DENVER — It wouldn’t be Colorado if we didn’t have critical fire danger conditions followed by heavy snow just a day later. But that’s exactly the scenario that will play out across parts of the state as we head into the tail end of the work week.

Warm and dry conditions were felt Thursday across the Denver metro as temperatures reached the upper 60s to low 70s. Windy conditions along and south of I-70 also gave way to high fire danger, with unseasonably warm temperatures in the 70s and near 80 degrees in far southeast Colorado.

Those winds, along low humidity values, prompted the National Weather Service in Boulder to issue another red flag warning from Castle Rock all the way down south the New Mexico border until 6 p.m. Thursday.

But in true Colorado fashion, weather conditions will drastically change late Thursday night into Friday, when a powerful winter storm swings into Colorado, ushering in heavy mountain snow that will then spread across the plains Friday.

What’s going to happen in the mountains?

A winter weather advisory will go into effect for the next 24 hours starting midnight Thursday for the High Mountain Parks, the Front Range Foothills, the Park Range mountains, and the Palmer Divide. Between 3 inches and up to a foot of snow are forecast for the area, with the heaviest amounts falling in the southern foothills.

The northern and southern Front Range foothills, as well as Castle Rock, Elizabeth, and Larkspur will be under a winter weather advisory for about 24 hours starting midnight Thursday. Total snow accumulations for these areas could be anywhere between 3 inches and a foot of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

The biggest impacts from this snowstorm, however, will be felt across the Front Range mountains, the Medicine Bow Range, the mountains of Summit County and the Mosquito Range.

A winter storm warning will be in effect midnight Thursday through midnight Friday for those areas due to gusty winds reaching 40 mph. Blowing and drifting snow along the higher mountain passes will make for extremely treacherous driving conditions. The NWS said Thursday they expect between 6 and 15 inches of snow to fall along these areas.

Weather service officials said localized snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour can be expected under the heaviest showers/snow bands, “most likely along and south of the I-70 mountain/foothills corridor, and across the Palmer Divide.”

Those traveling to the mountains or foothills will encounter a tough morning commute Friday, with evening ski travel also particularly impacted by the evening, according to the NWS.

How much snow can we expect in the Denver metro?

So far, it looks like it’ll be a slushy and snowy Friday for the Denver metro area, according to Denver7 chief meteorologist Lisa Hidalgo.

The shift will begin late Thursday night when the cold front moves over into the plains, bringing temperatures down to near freezing by sunrise.

NWS officials said a few rain/snow showers are possible overnight for the urban corridor, mainly north of Denver, “but almost all of the snow will hold off until after daybreak Friday.”

“Friday morning will see the bulk of the impacts as steady snow develops across the I-25 corridor and becomes heavier in our mountains and foothills,” they wrote in Thursday’s forecast discussion.

Between a trace to 2 inches of snow are expected for Denver, with heavier snowfall totals south and west of the metro, according to the NWS.

"Overall, it looks like light amounts of snowfall ... should be pretty slushy here for our area; it's just been so warm lately," said Denver7 meteorologist Stacey Donaldson. "If you are skiing in the next couple of days, some great powder on the way."

Friday’s snowstorm will break Denver’s long spell of unseasonably warm temperatures this winter. The last time the Mile High City had any measurable snowfall was on Jan. 25.

“Commuters should prepare for slick conditions in the morning regardless,” forecasters wrote Thursday, adding northern portions of the I-25 corridor will be less favored.

The plains will also see limited accumulations as temperatures hovering in the mid to upper 30s, “despite a likely band of greater precipitation extending northeast from the Palmer Divide into the Morgan, Washington and Logan county lines, forecasters said.

Highs on Friday for the I-25 corridor will be in the mid to upper 30s, with temps below freezing in the high country.

Milder and drier weather will return Saturday with a high of 50, and the warming trend continues through Monday, with a high for Denver of 71 degrees.
