AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University volleyball team continued its strong run at home on Saturday, earning a pair of victories inside Christenberry Fieldhouse. The Jaguars swept Middle Georgia State in straight sets before mounting a comeback win over Lees-McRae in five. With the results, Augusta improved to 20–4 overall and remains perfect at 9–0 in Peach Belt Conference play.

In the first match of the day, Augusta controlled the tempo from start to finish, taking down Middle Georgia State 3–0 (25–19, 25–21, 25–17). The Jaguars hit an impressive .326 as a team and recorded 43 kills while holding the Knights to a .173 attack percentage.

Setter Mia Saavedra led the way with 13 kills on a .579 hitting percentage to go along with 16 assists and two service aces. Sofiia Snitsarevych continued her consistent production with nine kills and two blocks, while Layne Witherspoon added five kills and four total blocks. Middle hitter Angela Mateos was efficient in the middle with five kills on .143 hitting and a pair of blocks. Giulia Rodrigues finished with 10 assists and eight digs, and Sydney Harrington chipped in 13 assists and six digs.

Augusta returned to the court later in the afternoon and battled through a five-set victory over Lees-McRae, 3–2 (14–25, 23–25, 25–14, 25–3, 15–12). After dropping the first two sets, the Jaguars regrouped and delivered one of their most dominant stretches of the season, limiting the Bobcats to just three points in the fourth frame and hitting .632 as a team in the set.

Lauren Nelson led the offense with 17 kills and three service aces on a .469 hitting percentage. Sofiia Snitsarevych followed with 11 kills and eight blocks, and Angela Mateos added five kills with seven blocks in the middle. Rodrigues anchored the defense with a team-high 19 digs and also served seven aces, while Saavedra posted another double-double with 28 assists and 12 digs. Layne Witherspoon chipped in six kills and three blocks, rounding out a balanced team effort.

Augusta finished the match with 51 kills, 22 blocks, and 10 service aces, while holding Lees-McRae to just a .044 team hitting percentage.

The Jaguars, who have now won three straight matches, return to Peach Belt Conference play on Tuesday, Oct. 28, when they host UNC Pembroke at 6 p.m. inside Christenberry Fieldhouse.

MACON, Ga. – Augusta volleyball continued its dominance in Peach Belt Conference action Thursday night, defeating Middle Georgia State 3–1 on the road to stay perfect in league play. The Jaguars improved to 18–4 overall and 8–0 in the PBC.

Augusta controlled the match from the start, opening with a 25–15 win in the first set and holding off a late Knights push to take the second, 25–23. Middle Georgia capitalized on a few Augusta miscues to claim the third, but the Jaguars responded with a decisive 25–17 finish in the fourth to seal the victory.

Sofiia Snitsarevych led the way with 15 kills and three blocks, while Layne Witherspoon added 14 kills on a .379 hitting percentage and four total blocks. Angela Mateos continued her strong play in the middle, finishing with 10 kills on a .529 clip. Setter Mia Saavedra notched a double-double with 10 kills and 29 assists, and Sydney Harrington added 23 assists and two aces.

Libero Giulia Rodrigues anchored the defense with 17 digs, as Augusta limited Middle Georgia to a .167 hitting percentage while posting 62 kills, 10 blocks, and a .200 team average.

Augusta returns home on Saturday, Oct. 25, hosting Middle Georgia in a non-conference matchup at 1 p.m. before facing Lees-McRae at 5 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - An Augusta child psychologist accused of abusing young patients will remain in prison, despite a tentative parole decision that could have set him free early.

After learning of the parole decision, 12 On Your Side began reaching out to victims connected to the case to make sure they were aware.

The board allows victims to submit letters before making its final ruling.

Some of the victims 12 On Your Side contacted said they had not been notified about the tentative release.

They were glad we told them because they wanted to write a letter.

One victim even asked your Meredith Anderson to write one, and she did. We want to be transparent about why.

During the investigation, 12 On Your Side uncovered another issue: the address McPherson provided as his residence upon release appeared to violate Georgia’s sex offender laws.

The property backs up to a neighborhood swimming pool, with a playground and tennis courts—all well within 1,000 feet of his home.

That raised questions about whether his proposed living arrangement would have been legal if he were released.

Victims wanted to ensure the parole board was aware of those concerns. We shared the findings, along with links to all of our earlier reporting, which highlighted how McPherson remained out on bond for more than 10 years without a court date until 12 On Your Side began pressing for answers.

We know multiple people wrote letters.

It’s unclear what swayed the parole board’s decision, but the result is clear: McPherson will remain behind bars.

He is currently housed at Coastal State Prison in Savannah and has about a year left on his sentence.
