INDIANAPOLIS — Wednesday evening, Visit Indy held its annual “State of Tourism,” marking 2025 accomplishments. Officials also announced that the NFL Combine will return next year and in 2028.

"In 2025, more hotel rooms were booked and occupied in downtown Indy than any year in tourism history, including 2024," Morgan Snyder, Senior Director of Public Relations and Film with Visit Indy, said.

$6.4 billion in visitor spending, 30.5 million visitors, and 78k hospitality jobs supported, sum up 2025 tourism in Indianapolis.

“Let's make this another record-breaking show-stopping year,” Mayor Joe Hogsett said.

"I think we are a great city, an amazing city, and I really don't think there is any competition. Everything is downtown. Everything is connected. The convention center, the hotels, the restaurants, that Hoosier hospitality, you will not get that anywhere,” Maggie Lewis, President of the Indianapolis City-County Council, said.

In 2025, Indianapolis hosted events such as the WNBA All-Star weekend, multiple NCAA tournaments, numerous conferences and the WWE Royal Rumble.

"There's so much more to look forward to in 2026 and beyond,” Leonard Hoops, President & CEO of Visit Indy, said.

This year, Indy will host its ninth NCAA Men's Final Four, as well as the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) event, which is projected to generate $800 Million, along with other events to keep raising the bar.

"You're going to have a Ritz-Carlton in Indianapolis that's under construction. The Signia by Hilton will open at the end of this year. A new Kempton with another rooftop bar. Downtown Indy is really growing, and it's going to be great for both residents and visitors alike,” Hoops said.

Visit Indy honored Pat McAfee with the city’s highest tourism award, recognizing his contributions to enhancing Indy’s brand, driving tourism,m and shining a national spotlight on the city.

"I did not expect to be crying up there. I mean, I'm crying. I'm embarrassed. I'm excited. I'm thankful, and yeah, I'm honored. It was, it was awesome," McAfee told WRTV.

McAfee, the former Colts punter turned sports analyst, shared what he thinks are the big draws of the Circle City.

"I think sports are always going to be able to lead the way, but I think everything else is so great, too. The conventions that come through here are so diverse and so loyal, it feels like once they get to the city, they stay here. So, yeah, I just think the city is only up to the right, and that's since the day I got here.”

Burnell Grimes, who attended the event, is thrilled to see that visitors are seeing how special Indianapolis is.

"I'm born and raised here in Indianapolis, and so seeing the city grow, seeing what we can do to continue that growth. So, I just wanted to be a part of that and celebrate with everyone else,” Burnell Grimes, who attended the State of Tourism, said.

Traders Point Creamery is a working dairy farm that offers local ingredients at their farm-to-table restaurant. From April through October, visitors can take a self-guided tour of the farm property, and visit with some of the Traders Point Creamery cows, chickens and other animals that call the Zionsville farm their home. And for dessert, kids will especially love that there’s a Dairy Bar on site, where you can order freshly made ice cream, milkshakes, sundaes and floats, which you can enjoy inside the restaurant or outdoors on the big patio.

14. Big Hoffa’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que and Freezery

800 E Main St, Westfield

Tangy, sweet flavors shine at , and so does the atmosphere. The 16,000 square-foot restaurant in Westfield gives off an airy, fun, pirate-themed vibe for tasty barbecue and ice cream under one roof.

But the real star of the menu includes their eight towering Insane Shakes. These sharable 20-ounce cups of ice cream include toppings like cotton candy, Ding-Dongs, Twinkies and sprinkles.

15. C.R. Heroes Family Pub

10570 E. 96th Street, Fishers

C.R. Heroes is a friendly restaurant that has been serving loyal Geist neighbors since June 2002. The dining room is adorned with hero-themed décor, including Wonder Woman, Superman and even Rosie the Riveter. Directly off the dining room is a small game room with six games: claw games, skill games and arcade games. The menu is kid-friendly, with smiley fries, hot pretzels, hand-breaded chicken tenders, pizza pretzels, mini corn dogs, mandarin oranges and broccoli.

LAWRENCE, Ind. — A Lawrence-based jazz artist is getting national recognition for more than just his sound. Brandon Meeks is using his music to highlight the cultural roots of jazz while working to put Indiana on the map in the national music conversation.

When Meeks’ fingers move across his bass, the sound that follows carries more than melody.

For him, jazz is deeply tied to history, identity, and responsibility.

“As a jazz artist, I really like to make sure the narrative around jazz’s Black American heritage and culture is at the forefront of the narrative,” Meeks said.

Music has long been Meeks’ passion, and he says it serves as a vessel for storytelling passed down through generations.

“I carry an ancestral story in the music,” he said.

The Lawrence-based musician performs and shares that message across Central Indiana, but his work has recently drawn national attention.

Meeks was named the winner of the 2026 Creative Capital State of the Art Prize for Indiana, making him the first Hoosier recipient to earn a $10,000 unrestricted grant with the award.

“I recently won the 2026 Creative Capital State of the Art Prize for Indiana,” Meeks told WRTV.

“Getting this level of national recognition it’s a level of validation and also an opportunity to kind of bring my community in Indianapolis into the national conversation around jazz and black culture,” he added.

Meeks plans to use the grant to uplift other local musicians through his project 'Unsung Giants.'

“It’s a performance project that takes conversations with under-recognized Indiana jazz artists and turns their stories into new music and in live concerts,” Meeks said.

His advocacy has already made an impact on fellow musicians, including drummer Richard 'Sleepy" Floyd, who frequently works alongside Meeks.

“He’s always been a step ahead of everybody else,” Floyd said.

Floyd runs the Inspire Music Collective that provides space for artists to play like Meeks.

It also provides music lessons for youth.

Together, the bassist and drummer aim to share the rich roots of jazz while showing young people that they belong in this space too.

“I think it’s important to for them to see that anything’s possible and that you have, you know, individuals that look like you that are really pushing for excellence,” Floyd said.

Meeks believes that visibility can open doors for emerging artists.

“It kind of shows other artists, especially those coming up, that there’s alternative lanes that you can pursue,” he said.

Meeks hopes the national spotlight extends beyond his own career and shines on Indiana as a whole.

“What I really hope to see happen is for Indianapolis and Indiana kind of be elevated into the national conversation on Black culture and jazz music in general,” he said.

Meeks will host the Unsung Giants jazz concert series later this summer.

The free outdoor series is supported through grants from the Indy Arts Council and the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation.

The concert series begins June 21 and will take place at the Fort Ben Cultural Campus Amphitheater in Lawrence.

The National Weather Service predicts a very wintry weekend ahead for central Indiana.

Indianapolis could see flurries as early as 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, but snow likely won't start to accumulate until about 10 p.m., according to NWS meteorologist Alexander McGinnis.

"The roads could certainly be slick across the (Indianapolis) metro area by 9 p.m.," McGinnis said.

Visibility could reduce to less than half a mile in Indianapolis and in areas southwest of the city, McGinnis warned, especially between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Snow will continue accumulating until 7 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, though some isolated showers could continue until around 10 a.m. Flurries may continue into the early afternoon, ending by 1 p.m. Dec. 12.

Most of central Indiana, including Indianapolis, will see accumulation between 1 and 3 inches overnight on Dec. 11. Forecasters predict a slightly higher amount — between 3 and 5 inches — will fall along a narrow corridor south of Indianapolis, blanketing Terre Haute, Bloomington and Columbus. Some isolated areas in that region could see as many as 6 inches.

A winter weather advisory is in effect through at least 10 a.m. Dec. 12.

More snow coming this weekend

Though central Indiana will see mostly clear skies beginning on the afternoon of Dec. 12, that will come to an end within about 24 hours.

Beginning at about 1 p.m. Dec. 13, another round of snow will fall on Indianapolis. This time, McGinnis said, the city will likely see new accumulation of about 3 to 5 inches, and areas south of the city will again see even more.

Higher wind gusts and lower temperatures will also likely make Saturday's snow feel more harsh. The high temperature will be about 23 degrees and winds will blow around 8 mph, compared to a high of 34 degrees and winds of 5 mph on Friday.

Though the snow should end overnight on Saturday, the wintry weather isn't going anywhere: an extreme cold snap will push temperatures into the negatives overnight Saturday and Sunday.

McGinnis warned that windchill overnight on Dec. 13 and Dec. 14 will make the subzero temperatures even more dangerous. The air could fall as low as -20 degrees on both nights, McGinnis said.
