5:49 p.m. -- The National Weather Service has issued a TORNADO WATCH for Bates and Henry Counties in Missouri until 1 a.m.
Officials with the NWS said Bates and Henry Counties were added into the watch due to concerns with storms currently in northeastern Oklahoma moving into southern and central Missouri.
5:30 p.m. -- Kansas City's severe weather risk is pushing later into Friday evening. Strong storms in Johnson and Henry Counties briefly intensified and then weakened considerably.
While our severe risk isn't zero for the evening, our biggest risk comes with the arrival of a cold front after sunset, and late Friday night. First Alert Live Radar shows the storms beginning to move into the western edge of the viewing area after 8 p.m. Friday.
3:50 p.m. -- Meteorologists with the NWS are monitoring the chances for a severe weather watch of some type (either a the blanket severe weather watch or a tornado watch). There is a 40% chance of the issuance of a watch within the next couple of hours, according to First Alert Meteorologist Nick Bender.

3:25 p.m. -- The National Weather Service has issued a TORNADO WATCH for parts of the Kansas City DMA just north and east of the Kansas City metro. This watch is expected to remain in effect through 10 p.m. for the following counties:
Kansas: Atchison County, Doniphan County.
Missouri: Andrew County, Atchison County, Gentry County, Harrison County, Holt County, Nodaway County, Worth County.

9:30 a.m. -- Friday morning’s rain showers left some areas flooded around the Kansas City metro.In Grandview, water covered a portion of East 129th Street, effectively shutting it down until Public Works crews could work on the issue. Drivers were asked to avoid the area.
The first round of severe thunderstorms has moved through the Kansas City area. We now wait for a second round associated with an incoming cold front.
The second round of storms is more likely to develop just ahead of and along the cold front between 8 p.m. and midnight, and this is the round with the greatest potential to impact Kansas City.
Storms along this cold front still carry the potential for damaging wind gusts and perhaps a tornado.
Storms will exit the Kansas City area after 2 a.m. Saturday and move east of Highway 65 (Trenton to Sedalia) not long thereafter.
