ODESSA/MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) - If you are a veteran, this story is for you. Veterans Day, a federal holiday honoring all who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, is a time to recognize their courage, sacrifice, and dedication to our country.
Across the Permian Basin, local businesses are stepping up to say thank you in their own ways. From free meals to free haircuts, tomorrow is all about giving back to those who’ve given so much.
“People think of Odessa/Midland, they think of oilfields, they think of the desert and the pump jacks, but there are some veterans around here,“ said Kory Grant, VFW 4372 Post Commander.
Many local and national businesses are showing appreciation for those veterans this weekend. Bigger chains like Rusty Taco, Golden Corral, Denny’s, Cracker Barrel, and Chicken Salad Chick are offering free or discounted meals for all veterans and active-duty service members.
Even smaller, local spots are joining in! Kilwins is offering a free scoop of ice cream or slice of fudge, while Apex Underground Coffee is giving veterans a free cup of coffee to start their day.
“From 9 A.M. to 11 A.M., we’re doing a drive for the veterans to get a free voucher if they’re not able to join us in the restaurant. We’re also doing, from 11 A.M. to 4 P.M., providing a free meal from the selected menu I have here. We just don’t want them to feel like they’re left out, and I hope they know they’re not forgotten because we do really appreciate what they did for us,“ said Aloesius White, Manager for Bubba’s 33 in Odessa.
Restaurants across the Basin are preparing for a busy Veterans Day as they honor local heroes— not just with food, but with gratitude.
Salons like Sports Clips and Great Clips are also showing appreciation by offering free haircuts, beard trims, and washes for veterans.
“We provide free haircuts, beards, and hair washes to all the veterans just to give appreciation back to them for serving our country,“ said Karissa Herrera, Assistant City Manager for Sport Clips in Odessa.
Whether it’s a free meal, a fresh haircut, or a heartfelt “thank you,” these gestures serve as reminders that veterans’ service and sacrifices will never be forgotten.
“We appreciate your service, we thank you, we honor you. Not only today, tomorrow, but all days… Thank you for your service,” said Grant.

H-E-B will bring thousands of Midland residents together Friday to give thanks and share a festive holiday meal during the 23rd annual H-E-B Feast of Sharing dinner.
The 2025 Feast of Sharing is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Midland County Horseshoe Arena, 2514 Arena Trail.
Jessicka Gonzales, senior manager of public affairs for H-E-B, said every year around the state of Texas, the company holds festive gatherings during the holiday season.
“We’re inviting the entire Midland community to bring their friends and family to join us for this free event,” Gonzales said. “We’re going to have a hot meal, live entertainment and a lot of fun activities for the family.”
This year’s Midland Feast of Sharing is expected to serve more than 6,000 people at the Horseshoe. The free event will include live music, entertainment, family activities, community services and fellowship.
The H-E-B Pharmacy team also will provide free flu shots, available while supplies last.
“Midland is an incredible community, and we’re excited to be able to give back by bringing a fun, free event to the community,” Gonzales said. “For the last 23 years, this has been a tradition that our Midland residents have loved and look forward to.”
According to H-E-B’s website, the Feast of Sharing is a series of festive gatherings that serve more than 340,000 meals at 34 dinners across Texas and Mexico.
H-E-B launched the Feast of Sharing in 1989 to bring communities together for food, music and holiday cheer.
Over more than three decades, H-E-B has held celebrations with more than 375,000 volunteers helping serve more than 4 million meals. The Feast of Sharing initiative is part of H-E-B’s Hunger Relief Program, which works year-round to prevent hunger in the more than 300 communities H-E-B serves.
