The event will bring more than 250 Muslim high school students to the California State Capitol for a day of civic engagement, legislative advocacy, and political education.

This year’s event focuses on empowering young Muslims to advocate on issues that directly affect their communities—including ethnic studies and demographic inclusion—while navigating an increasingly restrictive political climate. Participants will meet with state legislators to advocate for key legislation and attend leadership development workshops led by Muslim professionals in public service.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

Sacramento’s newest concert venue, Channel 24, opened its doors to a sold-out crowd of more than 2,000 people Thursday night.

Anticipation for the inaugural show, featuring country artist Tucker Wetmore, brought an electric energy to Midtown Sacramento as concertgoers eagerly gathered to be among the first inside the venue.

“We’re really excited, like really, really excited,” said Lucy Teafatiller, one of many fans eager for the show.

For 10-year-old Lucy, it was a particularly special night as it marked her first-ever concert on her birthday.

Others, such as Shelby Wesner, lined up hours early, arriving at 1 p.m. to secure their spot.

Fans like Serena Rainer brought gifts to mark the event.

"I bought flowers for Tucker because he’s the first artist to ever play this new venue in Sacramento. That’s a big accomplishment for him and the city. Plus, his debut album comes out tonight,” Rainer said.

While excitement filled the air, parking challenges emerged. Neighboring streets saw illegal parking from concert attendees, raising concerns among residents like Bethanni Riedel, who lives a block away.

“I’ve been a little worried about it because of the parking permit situation,” Riedel said.

Riedel said she's excited to live close to the venue, but is concerned about what the future might hold if concertgoers do not keep nearby residents in mind when choosing parking.

"It'll just be interesting to see how it plays out with parking and like, I don't know, maybe I'll have to get some chalk lines and like, really mark out the lines on the driveway just so people don't block you in," Riedel said.

Despite these concerns, local businesses welcomed the additional foot traffic. Daniel Delagnes of Round Corner Bar noted the opportunity his bar can cash in on.

“I say come in and have a drink here — it’s half the price of drinks over there," Delagnes said.

Tyler Sazaki of Racks Vintage Boutique echoed the sentiment and wants to look at the positive about the venue's grand opening.

“Everyone around here is benefiting, especially with this influx of like-minded crowds,” Sazaki said.

Channel 24 promises a new era for live music in Sacramento, as the city navigates the excitement of a new venue alongside the logistical challenges that come with growth.
