The Wizard of Oz
RJJT brings to life, “The Wizard of Oz," the delightful stage adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s beloved tale featuring all the most beloved songs and moments from the 1939 classic film. Young Dorothy Gale is swept away by a tornado from her Kansas farm to the magical land of Oz. There, she encounters a host of whimsical characters: good witches, bad witches, animals that talk, scarecrows that walk, and things magical to behold. To find her way home, she must journey along the Yellow Brick Road to see the mysterious and all-powerful Wizard in Emerald City. Along the way, she makes new friends, but must also brave many dangers, including the Wicked Witch of the West, who will stop at nothing to get her hands on Dorothy’s magical ruby slippers. To make it home safely, Dorothy must learn an important lesson: there’s no place like home.

Disney Alice in Wonderland JR.
Fall down the rabbit hole with Alice as she navigates the curious world of Wonderland on a journey of self-discovery. When young Alice finds herself in a strange world where everything seems upside down, she must find her way home…and find herself along the way. As she travels through Wonderland, she encounters all the iconic characters that audiences have come to love, including the ever-tardy White Rabbit, the grinning Cheshire Cat, a cool Caterpillar, the wacky Mad Hatter, and the hot-tempered Queen of Hearts.
Hadestown: Teen Edition
This intriguing and beautiful folk opera delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience. Following two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and lady Persephone – Hadestown invites audiences on an unforgettable journey to the underworld and back. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, Mitchell’s beguiling sung-through musical pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love.
Disney Alice in Wonderland JR. - Participation
Registration is now open for Disney's Alice in Wonderland JR.
Ages 8-15 years of age welcome. Camp begins June 9 and meets Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. and runs through July 17.
Participants must provide their own costumes, including black, soft-soled dance shoes, and a lunch each day. A portion of the lab fee will cover some of the cost of a costume.
Performances will be held at the Mission City Center for Performing Arts, 3250 Monroe Street, on July 15, 16, and 17 at 7:00 p.m., and July 16 at 11:30 a.m. Participants should plan to attend camp every day.
A payment plan is available: 50% of the class fee due at the time of enrollment and balance will be charged on June 2. Payment plan is not available through mobile registration.
Beginning the week of July 7, through the remainder of camp, we require all campers attend, as this begins the technical portion of the show with complete run-throughs, and it is vital to have the entire cast and crew present.

Hadestown: Teen Edition - Participation
Registration for Hadestown: Teen Edition is now open.
Ages 13-19 years of age are welcome.
Auditions will take place on Tuesday, June 10 and callbacks will be held Wednesday, June 11 and Thursday, June 12. Bring an audition song and be prepared to dance. A completed conflict calendar, with all known conflicts, must be submitted on the first day of auditions.
Rehearsals begin June 16 and will take place Monday through Friday, 4:30-7 p.m. Individual schedules will vary with part received. Rehearsal schedules will be distributed when casting is complete. Performances of this production will be Friday, August 1 and Saturday, August 2, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, August 3, 2 p.m. Participants are responsible for providing basic costume pieces, outside of what's purchased from the paid lab fee amount, and dance shoes.

For the second time in a decade, the city hosting the Super Bowl — Santa Clara, California — was entirely ignored during the official Super Bowl 60 news conference.
At the kickoff event on Feb. 10, there was no speech from Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor. Instead, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan took center stage, branding San Jose as the “Capital of Silicon Valley.”
The reason for this snub? Likely the ongoing feud between 49ers management and Gillmor. But even if they were the best of friends, where exactly would Super Bowl fans gather in Santa Clara? The Target parking lot? The lobbies of Nvidia or Intel? The swim center? Perhaps the gravesite of the city’s original downtown — now an expanse of parking lots, a scattering of unrelated buildings and an abandoned courthouse.
60 years ago, the Santa Clara City Council voted to demolish its own downtown — eliminating any true gathering space for visitors and residents. In recent years, frustration has grown as citizens realize their city is missing out, not only on economic opportunities but on civic pride. Santa Clara remains one of the few cities in the United States without a downtown, and its absence has become an embarrassment.
Meanwhile, San Jose, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Redwood City, Campbell and Los Gatos all boast thriving, walkable downtowns that will benefit from the influx of Super Bowl visitors and spending. In 2016, Super Bowl 50 generated an estimated $240 million for the region. Only 7% of this money went to Santa Clara. Super Bowl 60 and the World Cup’s economic impact is expected to be $1.7 billion. Yet again, little of that revenue will be spent in the host city — the city whose residents approved Levi’s Stadium.
Residents formed a group in 2016 called Reclaiming Our Downtown, to restore Santa Clara’s historic downtown. Since then, tremendous momentum has pushed the city to finally act. A downtown citizens task force was created, and an urban planner was hired to draft the Downtown Santa Clara Precise Plan. In December 2023, the city council approved the plan, which is now shovel ready.
Yet progress has stalled. A small contingent in City Hall continues to push for another project — City Place — to take priority. The problem? The original City Place plan relied heavily on office space, a model that collapsed in the post-pandemic economy, and had to be redesigned. Meanwhile, the downtown plan is ready to go.
Santa Clara owns the first two blocks slated for downtown redevelopment. The city can leverage that land to create a nationally recognized, pedestrian-friendly beautiful destination point — one that could host Super Bowl fans, FIFA visitors and future generations of Santa Clarans. This type of vibrant downtown would inspire economic growth, badly needed tax revenues, attract investment and restore the heart of the city.
For nearly 10 years, a dedicated group of 5,000 residents has worked tirelessly to bring downtown back. It’s time for the city to act. If city leaders need a financial incentive, they should ask any economist how much Santa Clara is losing in tourism dollars during Super Bowl 60 and next year’s FIFA World Cup events. But more importantly, ask any Santa Clara resident. They deserve the tax and economic benefits from events held at Levi’s Stadium and, more importantly, they deserve to have their city’s heart restored.

BERKELEY – The California baseball team (5-5) wrapped up a 10-game homestand that was the longest to open a season in recorded school history with a 4-2 loss to Santa Clara (6-3) on Saturday afternoon at Stu Gordon Stadium.
Cal scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning and brought the tying run to the plate with no outs after led off with a single and scored on RBI double down the left field line before Santa Clara reliever Caden Wooster struck out three consecutive Golden Bears to end the threat and earn his second save of the season.
Both teams had chances in the first two innings but neither scored – the Bears stranded four runners and the Broncos' three – before the game developed into a pitching dual between Santa Clara starter Victor Martinez and California starter .
Martinez (1-1) earned the victory and allowed only one hit over 7.0-plus scoreless innings before he was removed after walking to lead off the Bears' eighth. Martinez scattered four walks and struck out seven. At one point, Martinez retired 17 consecutive hitters and the only hit against him came was double on a misplayed fly ball by Broncos' right fielder Payton Lambert to lead off the Bears' second.
Eddy (0-1) took the loss despite allowing only one hit and one unearned run over a career-high 5.1 innings. Eddy walked six and struck out two.
Santa Clara struck first in the top of the sixth to end a scoreless tie. Dylan Joyce and Conner Smith started the rally by drawing one-out walks to chase Eddy before the Broncos scored an unearned run when Cal second baseman was charged with an error when he was unable to come up with Tate Medicoff's soft liner. Reliever got Lambert to hit into an inning-ending double play to escape without further damage.
The Broncos added two runs in the top of the seventh inning off Clark to go ahead 3-0 when Malcolm Williams doubled with two outs to score Max Ross and Ben Cleary, who had walked and singled back-to-back with one out to start the rally.
Cal finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth to cut the deficit to 3-1 when Advincula doubled with two outs and scored on RBI single.

A Santa Clara County judge has ruled against striking VTA union workers, bringing bus and light rail services back to the region.
Superior Court Judge Daniel Nishigaya ruled Wednesday that members of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 265, which represents about 1,500 frontline VTA employees, must return to work — ending the union’s historic 17-day strike. He said VTA’s argument was valid and the strike was a breach of contract. Representatives from ATU Local 265 and VTA appeared in court after the public transit agency filed for an injunction earlier this month to stop the strike.
“The court does believe there is at least a reasonable interpretation of the collective bargaining agreement that would lead to the conclusion that the agreement including the no strike provision remains in full force and effect until agreement is reached while negotiations have taken place,” Nishigaya said in his ruling.

VTA spokesperson Stacey Hendler Ross said it’s unclear when service will return, but that VTA leadership will decide soon, as the injunction takes effect immediately. Negotiations on a new contract will continue despite the strike being stopped.
“This was a success for the passengers and for the people who rely on public transportation,” Hendler Ross said.
Another hearing will be scheduled in the future to determine VTA’s breach of contract case.
ATU Local 265 President Raj Singh said he’s disappointed by Nishigaya’s ruling.
“We’ll see what happens tomorrow shortly, but we believe the judge got this wrong,” Singh said. “At the end of the day, the workers lost.”
The injunction is one of VTA’s attempts to get striking workers back to work and restore public transit services across Santa Clara County. Nishigaya declined VTA’s request for an immediate injunction on March 17.
The public transit agency also asked Gov. Gavin Newsom to step in. Jenica Maldonado, an attorney representing VTA, said in the hearing that the governor’s office declined to intervene.
ATU Local 265 representatives argued the contract ended March 3, nullifying the “no strike” clause. Benjamin Lunch, an attorney representing ATU Local 265, said VTA sent messages to employees acknowledging the contract would end March 3 and published a public bulletin about the contract ending, in which the agency acknowledged a potential strike.
The union also pointed out there are special government codes to provide injunctive relief in the event of a public transit agency strike — which it alleges VTA hasn’t followed. Lunch argued against VTA’s notion of “harm,” pointing to a 1990 California Supreme Court decision that gave public transit workers the right to strike despite the impact on riders.
“Public transit strike(s) will naturally have an impact on the public,” Lunch said.
ATU Local 265 and VTA haven’t been able to reach an agreement after months of negotiations. Union members voted down VTA’s latest contract offer Monday, which included an 11% wage increase over three years and changes to the conflict resolution process, but introduced new terms that hadn’t been discussed since earlier in negotiations.
Monica Mallon, transit advocate and San José Spotlight columnist, said she hopes transit services will return by this weekend. VTA previously said it might take up to two days for safety inspections of rail lines and other equipment.
As negotiations are continuing, Mallon cautioned against service cuts and urged the union and agency to focus on maintaining VTA’s long-term success.
“As a low-income rider without a car that has been struggling to get around during the strike, I’m relieved that service will return and I’m sure most riders will be relieved as well,” Mallon told San José Spotlight.

The VTA last Wednesday asked Nishigaya for a temporary restraining order to end the strike pending the court’s hearing of its claims that the union had violated a “no strike” clause in its contract expired a week ago. The agency sought to force workers back to their jobs while negotiations over a new labor contract continue.
Late Monday, the judge rejected the agency’s request for a restraining order, allowing the strike to continue until the court hearing.
The court decision Monday wasn’t the only rejection that hit the transit agency.
On Saturday, the VTA asked Gov. Gavin Newsom to intervene in the labor dispute. The VTA asked Newsom to order a fact-finding investigation to bring striking VTA frontline workers back to work while contract negotiations continue.
The Governor’s Office on Monday rejected the VTA request, telling San Jose Inside, “Our office is urging the parties to return to the bargaining table to engage in meaningful conversations and reach an agreement.”
The VTA said the union walked away from the bargaining table Friday after two additional mediation sessions. The union said the two sides are far apart on key provisions of a new three-year contract.
In a statement released today, the VTA put a positive spin on the court’s rejection of its restraining order request: “This means that the court found VTA has met its initial burden to show a likelihood of success on the merits of its breach of contract claim and that it will suffer irreparable harm if the strike continues.”
The VTA said the union now has the burden of convincing the judge why the court should not issue an injunction to halt the strike.
“VTA is committed to moving beyond the rhetoric to focus on constructive actions to finalize a contract,” the VTA said in today’s statement. “We have presented a fair and reasonable offer that keeps our employees among the highest paid in the Bay Area and the nation. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes a pension plan. We have offered language to address ATU’s issue on arbitration.”
The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 265 (ATU) represents 1500 VTA bus and light rail operators, mechanics, fare inspectors, dispatchers and customer service representatives.
VTA proposed a wage increase of 9.3% over the next three years – annual wage increases of 4%, 3% and 2% – and a $1,500 one-time payment for members.
The VTA is seeking 6% increases each year over three years. The union said last week it also was concerned that the VTA wanted to increase the cost of dental insurance, and allow the termination of employees after being absent after one year with a disability or an industrial injury plus a demand that the system have the sole power to decide whether an employee grievance should go to arbitration.
