STOCKTON, Calif. — Multiple San Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD) routes are affected after service was halted Monday due to a board meeting matter, the agency said.
“Due to a Board meeting matter, RTD service is currently halted,” the district wrote in a news release on social media. “We will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.”
An ABC10 reporter at the downtown transit center saw buses parked, blocking a city street and loading areas. Passengers were reportedly wondering what was happening, as they were unable to board buses.
Inside the board meeting room, ABC10 saw numerous RTD employees fill seats in the audience.
ABC10 has an inquiry out to San Joaquin RTD for more information.
In a statement, Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi called for the immediate restoration of all public transportation services.
“Public transportation is an essential service, not an optional one,” said Mayor Fugazi. “Any action that disrupts residents’ ability to get to work, school, medical appointments, or essential services is unacceptable and unconscionable. I have directed that service be fully restored without delay.”

“These are public dollars, public employees, and essential public services. Using riders and frontline workers as leverage in an internal leadership matter is a failure of professional judgment and leadership.
As a result of today’s service shutdown, seniors missed medical appointments, students were unable to get to school, and working families were left without reliable transportation to their jobs. This harm to the public is real and immediate.
What occurred today is not a labor issue, not a safety issue, and not an operational emergency. It is a failure of professional leadership.
No CEO has the authority, moral or professional, to place the public at risk because their own performance is under review. A CEO earning over $350k a year in taxpayer funds has a duty to ensure uninterrupted service to the public, not to use public resources as leverage in a personnel matter.
I want residents to know; your city government is working with RTD and transportation services will continue.”
