Williamson-Dickie, a storied 102-year-old Fort Worth-based clothing company specializing in tough workwear, is leaving Cowtown for the West Coast.
A company representative confirmed to NBC 5 on Thursday that VF Corporation, the branded apparel company that bought Dickies in October 2017 for $820 million, was moving the headquarters to Costa Mesa, California so that they could share space with other brands.
"By co-locating Dickies with our Vans team in Costa Mesa, we will create an even more vibrant campus where creativity and best practice sharing can thrive through greater collaboration and connections – creating a dynamic and innovative environment similar to our other VF co-branded offices," the Dickies representative said in a statement.
Dickies said about 120 employees who work at the headquarters in Fort Worth will lose their jobs as a result of the consolidation move.
"These kinds of decisions are never made lightly. We are deeply grateful for our Dickies associates’ dedication and hard work and want to recognize the camaraderie and commitment they have shown to the brand," the representative said. "Our priority is to ensure that everyone is treated with respect and care throughout this process. We will provide resources and assistance to help them navigate the next steps in their careers."
Dickies said the move does not impact employees working at a local distribution facility, local warehouses, and stores in the Metroplex.
City officials said they were aware of the proposed move and said Dickies is a true Texas original and an example of the kind of success stories that businesses can find in Fort Worth.
“Great success stories have their roots in Fort Worth and Dickies is just one example," said Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker. "While we understand companies are sometimes forced to make difficult budget decisions under new leadership, we think VFC will find – as others have – that Fort Worth, Texas is ultimately a more competitive place to do business.”
The company said the move to California will be carefully managed over an "extended transition period" and is expected to be completed by May 2025.
"We remain proud of Dickies storied Fort Worth roots," the company said. "While this was a tough call, we are confident this change will help us revitalize Dickies so we can carry on the brand’s heritage for years to come."
In 1980, the company moved its headquarters to a historic two-story brick building on Lipscomb Street. Before Dickies moved in, the Romanesque-style building served as Stephen F. Austin Elementary School from 1892 until 1977. Dickies remained at the building until 2020, when they moved to their current headquarters on West Vickery Boulevard. The Lipscomb Street headquarters, the oldest standing school building in Tarrant County, has been rebranded as The Schoolhouse on Lipscomb and is named in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
Six months before the company was sold to VF Corp., Dickies secured the naming rights to a new 14,000-seat arena being built in the Fort Worth Cultural District. The area opened in 2019 and has since been known as Dickies Arena.
Along with Dickies and Vans, VF Corp. owns lifestyle brands The North Face, Timberland, Jansport and Eastpak.

The Costa Mesa Planning Commission Tuesday will give initial consideration to a plan by the city to acquire a residential property near Shalimar Park in order to expand a rare recreational space in the highly developed west-side area.
Panelists will review whether the purchase of the property, at 778 Shalimar Drive, conforms to the city’s general plan in a meeting rescheduled from its typical second-Monday format, which would have fallen on Veterans Day.
Such a transaction would require the city to demolish a 3,390-square-foot fourplex on the .16-acre parcel, then draw up plans for expansion of Shalimar Park. Those actions would require separate Planning Commission approval.

“Acquiring this land would nearly double Shalimar Park’s footprint, creating a valuable opportunity for enhancement to a local community that is recognized as being one of the most densely populated and highly developed areas in the city,” reads a staff report for Tuesday’s meeting.
The pocket park, located at 782 Shalimar Drive, is currently undergoing about $2.3 million in improvements thanks, in part, to a budget allocation from state Sen. Dave Min (D-Irvine) in 2022. The renovation was approved this summer with input from the public.
Dedicated in 1999, Shalimar was made possible by city officials who, two years prior, purchased the property for a reported $191,000 and demolished an old, boarded-up residence that had been there, the Los Angeles Times reported.
City leadership in 1997 expressed hope the park might help transform a neighborhood known as an “epicenter of gang troubles, drug sales and illicit activities.”
“It would give the street a place for the kids to go, so there would be a better sense of community there,” then-Councilman Joe Erickson said of the effort at the time.
Zoned R-3 for multifamily residential use, and with a land use designation sanctioning high-density living accommodations, the parcel is listed for sale on the real estate website Redfin for $1.75 million.
Costa Mesa’s land use matrix permits parks and playgrounds in R-3 zones, according to city staff. While the general plan establishes a goal of approximately 4.26 acres of park space per 1,000 residents, the planning area in which Shalimar Park sits offers much less open space — just 2.34 acres per 1,000 people.
“Therefore, the location of the acquisition of the subject property for park purposes will assist in achieving the city’s goal of 4.26 acres of parkland per 1,000 residents within the most densely populated and highly developed area in the city, the staff report concludes.

Verde, the new restaurant concept from partners Koire Rogers and Anthony Laborin, is set to open its doors on Friday, November 15, 2024. Located within The Ranch at Newport Bay in Eastside Costa Mesa, the innovative venture will offer libation-focused dining highlighting a sophisticated cocktail and wine program alongside a menu of seasonal, ingredient-driven California cuisine led by Executive Chef Paula Balderrama.

Offering panoramic views of the Costa Mesa landscape, the concept’s unique, two-story venue features an upper-level dining area with approximately 70 seats. Large windows, plush seating and a sleek marble bar create a calm and inviting ambiance with a bright, modern aesthetic. Open for lunch and dinner, the upstairs space also includes a patio, providing an elegant open-air setting reflective of California’s coastal charm.
The lower-level cocktail lounge, Bar Verde, offers 40 seats including a 16-person banquet for larger parties. With dark wood and a moody palette, the cozy hideaway is the perfect late-night destination to enjoy expertly crafted cocktails along with elevated bites and shared plates, available from dinnertime well into the evening.
Verde’s standout bar program showcases the passion and expertise that Anthony Laborin and Koire Rogers share in helping guests discover the exciting world of libations and crafting the perfect pairing. The beverage menu’s curation of intriguing Old World and local wines, as well as a vibrant list of innovative, well-balanced cocktails, are all thoughtfully designed to complement and enhance each dish. Guests can enjoy drinks like the refreshing Garibaldi with Campari and fresh orange, the aromatic Dear Amari (#1) with Amari, citrus and herbs, or the complex Old Man Trouble with scotch, Cynar and angostura.
Sharing the partners’ commitment to sustainability and seasonally sourced California cuisine, Executive Chef Paula Balderrama’s culinary talent shines in Verde’s refined yet approachable menu. “At Verde, we’re honoring California’s incredible seasonal produce by letting each ingredient speak for itself,” said Chef Balderrama. “My goal is to create dishes that are simple yet sophisticated, and when paired with an exceptional glass of wine or cocktail, they come together to tell a complete story of flavor.”
Drawing from her experience at renowned Southern California restaurants like Pizzeria Mozza, Folks Pizzeria, and Puesto Irvine, Balderrama embraces simplicity as the highest form of elegance. At the upper-level restaurant, experience a full menu with entrées such as Barramundi with mashed parsnip and walnut crumble, Seafood Stew with wine sauce, herbs and blossoms, and Ribeye Cap topped with anchovy herb butter. Head to Bar Verde on the lower level to enjoy elevated bar bites including a selection of tinned fish with accompaniments, cheese and charcuterie, flatbread and a rotating variety of paninis.
Verde’s upper-level restaurant will be open daily for lunch and dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Bar Verde, on the lower level, will be open from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
