LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. (KCTV) - The Shriver family has been having fun with their Halloween display this year: they’ve transformed their front yard into a football field, combining Halloween and their love for the Kansas City Chiefs.
“We have been fans our whole lives,” said Kristin Shriver. “Ever since I was little. We used to get together with our family, have potlucks, and just watch the games. We’ve continued it into adulthood.”
Kristin’s husband, Rick Shriver, has a special connection to the team as well.
“I got to coach Felix Anudike-Uzomah in high school,” said Rick. “I was very fortunate enough to be able to coach him. Just to have that connection with him and I couldn’t be more proud of him and him playing for the Chiefs. He’s such a great person and seeing the success he’s had, I wish him nothing but the best. It’s so cool.”
The idea came after their 9-year-old son was on his way to school last year and saw a front yard display with skeletons playing volleyball.
“He wanted our skeletons to be kicking a field goal,” said Kristin “Well, this year we decided to go above and beyond, start the season off right and change it up every single week.”
From the painted football field and yellow goalposts to skeletons dressed as Taylor Swift and Andy Reid, the Shriver family has had their display up long before spooky season started.
“We wanted to make sure we had it up ready to go before the first regular season game,” said Rick. “That way we could support every week as we go throughout this season.”

Each week, they’ve moved the skeletons around the display.
“We have had a lot of fun ones,” said Kristen. “Our first one was just a touchdown. We’ve done an interception. We’ve done a field goal. We had a sack with a fumble recovery on Joe Burrow. We had Patrick Mahomes trucking the guy.”
“When we played the 49ers, of course we had to do Tom and Jerry,” said Rick. “We had to make sure that Mecole Hardman was going in for a touchdown because it is so iconic.”
Ahead of the Chiefs taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday, they have a Patrick Mahomes skeleton dressed as the grim reaper.
“Andy Reid talked about Patrick Mahomes being the grim reaper,” said Rick. “When it’s grim, be the grim reaper when we played the Buffalo Bills a few years ago in the playoffs with 13 seconds left. We went out there and crushed their hopes and dreams. We wanted to replicate that as best we can.”
“Chiefs players got their shovels, ready to bury everybody,” said Kristin. “We’ve got our tombstone with our ‘here lies the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ because they are getting buried.”
The display has been a hit in the neighborhood. The Shriver family has also put up a sign with #ShriverSkeletonsKC encouraging people to post photos of their own online.
“It has been magnificent,” said Kristin. “People love it. They stop and take pictures. They tell us how much they enjoy seeing it every week. It’s been a blast.”
The Shriver family says they plan on keeping the display up for the rest of the season and hopefully post-season.

LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. (KCTV) - Early voters in Jackson County faced wait times lasting up to 3.5 hours on Saturday in Lee’s Summit at the Ranger Rec. Building.
It was the second straight day of long wait times at the location. Jackson County Election Board Director Tammy Brown says Jackson County is voting like never before.
“Never seen anything like this in all my years,” Brown said Saturday. “Presidential or not, I’ve never seen this kind of turnout.”
With some wait times lasting more than three hours, people needed something to do. Many struck up conversations and left with new friends.
“It’s been a long wait, but it didn’t seem too bad,” said David Collins. “We’ve been talking, it made the time pass, and everybody seems to be nice people out here.”
“We’ve met some wonderful people, very entertaining,” said first-time voter Tracy Trussell. “They’ve let us go to the bathroom, they let us go get a little scone. So yeah, that’s been wonderful.”
Despite the long waits, voters told KCTV5 it was important to them to stay and perform their civic duty.
“Been waiting for this moment for a long time,” said Amy Schenk. “This is the election of a lifetime. Two very different candidates, two very different ideas.”
“I think it’s a historical thing we’re doing and I’m just glad to be a part of it,” Collins said.

The Jackson County Election Board told KCTV5 the county’s voter turnout record is near 80% and that the county may break that record this year. One first time voter said she wanted to make her voice heard in this election.
“I used to think my vote didn’t count,” Trussell said. “It didn’t matter if I voted. I’m just one person. But if enough ‘one of us’ do it, it makes it a movement.”
Jackson County Election Board officials said the long wait times were due to a short staff. They had about 100 people voting per hour at the Lee’s Summit site.
