On November 15, FHC will be screening the documentary film Last Season: Portrait of a Trawler. Last Season follows Captain Jeff Hatfield and the crew of the groundfish trawler Isabel S. out of New Bedford. The film accompanies them to the once-ample fishing grounds of Georges Bank and the Nantucket Shoals, where they haul in nets, and do the backbreaking and bloody work of hand-cutting thousands of pounds of cod and other fish on a pitching trawl deck.
On December 20, FHC will be screening Charlotte: A Wooden Boat Story. Charlotte is a film about an extraordinary boatyard, the Gannon & Benjamin Marine Railway, located on Martha’s Vineyard. Ross Gannon and Nat Benjamin established the boatyard in 1980 with the purpose of designing, building, and maintaining traditionally built wooden boats, and in the process they transformed Vineyard Haven harbor into a mecca for wooden boat owners and enthusiasts. After a long career of designing and constructing boats for others, Nat embarks on building a 50 foot gaff rigged schooner for use by his family and friends – her name is Charlotte. Through close observation of the everyday activities of the boatyard, the film emerges as a meditation on tradition, craftsmanship, family, community, our relationship to nature, and love of the sea.

Barstool Sports CEO Dave Portnoy spent Sunday on the SouthCoast eating pizza and giving his world-famous One Bite Reviews.
Portnoy stopped into Ray’s in New Bedford and Central Café in Middleborough, and both places seemed to win over the media mogul’s taste buds.
Mark Saber Jr. of New Bedford has been going to Ray’s for about five years. He was picking up a few cheese pizzas when he bumped into Portnoy, who was doing a pizza review.
“He was great, very humble, very welcoming of taking the picture with him,” he said. “Honestly a nice dude all around.”
Saber Jr. was in the pizza parlor while Portnoy gave his review outside, but he has a feeling the score is going to be high.
“I think Dave will score favorably because Ray makes the pizza Dave typically favors, thin crust and crunchy,” he said.

It was quite the scene outside Central Café on Sunday when the Middleboro Cobras bombarded Portnoy’s review outside the pizza joint.
The Cobras were celebrating their championship win with the pizza parlor that has long supported them, when Portnoy showed up, and the real party started.
The team showered Portnoy with Cobras merchandise, then watched off-screen as Portnoy gave the pizza spot an impressive 7.9.
“A huge thank you to Dave for stopping by and shining a light on our small family business,” said Central Café online. “This moment may have been just a quick stop for him, but it’s a day we’ll remember and talk about forever here at The Central.”

There's pizza, and then there's South Shore Bar Pizza. Birthed in Brockton (and to this writer, perfected in Randolph – Lynwood Café is the true G.O.A.T.), it must meet certain qualifications to be considered "SSBP," which include: it's a 10-inch pie; it has a thin, cracker-like crust with minimal "flop;" the cheese is a blend that features more cheddar than mozzarella; and bonus points if you take it home between two carboard-type plates wrapped in flat brown paper bag. They also usually come with "laced" or "burnt" edges (terminology depends on where you are ordering), which is when the sauce and cheese are extended all the way to the edge of the pan, creating a crispy, flavorful coating to the crust.
